Routes to recovery and resilience. New strategies for skills and employment and role of Cities and Metropolitan Cities

 recovery and resilience

The second Cities4Appren Live Discussion held on 21st January was a truly inspiring exchange of idea, suggestions and concerns to work together on a better working world and the possible use of the Recovery and Resilience Facility for apprenticeship and skills development bringing together metropolitan cities and cities across Europe, and the European Commission.

Skills emerged as the deciding factor for successful inclusive and fair economic recovery and apprentices are a vital part of the skills pipeline which has to be maintained in the context of the economic recovery. Local responses matter for short-term and long-term impacts. Transformative and equitable recovery starts in the response phase and understanding the local ecosystem and how different parts affect each other will be critical. In the midst of urgency and unpredictability, metropolitan cities and cities are beginning to put the structures and processes in place to move out of emergency response.

Waiting for the next meeting in March 2021 cities will share ideas, concrete proposals, and action-oriented recommendations to fuel the final document which will be presented to the joint event of the European Commission and Committee of the Region in June 2021.
